A Virtual Wildflower Garden Across Time
This and its companion page, Wildflowers sorted by taxonomic classifications, present information that may help identify wildflowers. This page is meant for visitors who know what a certain plant looks like and when and where it bloomed and want to know the genus and species name; plants are sorted by date of appearance (day and month) within the dominant color of their flowers, fruits and/or false leaves, whichever is most prominent. For example, the Asiatic Dayflower (Commelina communis), has tiny yellow flowers, but its large blue fake petals are actually its dominant feature and so determine the species' color category assignment.
Plants with no clearly dominant color are each placed in multiple categories. Members of the same species seen on different dates will still be sorted by date.
These Latin names were checked against the Integrated Taxonomic Information System for validity.
