Honeybee (Apis mellifera).  There were dozens of honeybees on these asters. Tipulid crane fly Tipulid crane fly in flight

These Common Buckeyes were just a few of dozens seen seeking mates in the grassy border of the marsh surrounding the swamp.  The ventral sides of their hind wings were the dark hue typical of this time of year.

The top row photos were taken in a grassy area near my neighborhood swamp.  The second row was taken in a clump of asters near the swamp.

Female Fiery Skipper Painted Lady (dorsal view): Something apparently had taken a bite out of this butterfly's right hind wing. Painted Lady (ventral view of unharmed left hind wing) Painted Lady (ventral view of right wing: most of the eyespots are gone, perhaps the target of a bite.)
