Mystery Critters

These insects are so puzzling I can't tell what orders they are members of.  Identification help is welcome!

Larva in a large puddle in Durham, NC, 6/3/06.  These animals seem to bury their heads in the mud while sticking their tails up to the water's surface. Larva, found on land (probably not alive), same place and time.  Most likely some kind of diving beetle, although the legs are not apparent. Larva, Durham, NC, 9/8/06 This tiny animal crawled out from under some Durham leaf litter on 11/11/05.

Probably a scorpion fly (Brachypanorpa carolinensis), Craggy Gardens, Macon County, NC, 7/8/05.  But not a high enough quality to put it on a subject page.

Mystery insect, Johnston Mill, Orange County, NC, 5/20/06
