September 2014

After a long period dominated by the late-flowering Chinese Lespedeza, wildlife and wildflowers made their appearance in Piedmont North Carolina. This included two new species: a Copestylum genus flower fly and a Saddleback Caterpillar (Acharia stimulea). Frogs appeared, too! And a trip to urban northern California yielded some new species and plenty of wonderful landscapes. Finally, the first Monarch butterfly of the year appeared.
