Brown-headed Nuthatch making a hole in a wooden chimney.  This behavior is similar to that of Downy Woodpeckers in this respect, except that Downies can be scared off!

This Brown Pelican came in for a landing, keeping an eye on me the whole time.  OK, the last picture was of a different pelican...  This was an ideal place for pelicans to catch fish, because the fish were confused by the dead end that the marina created.

Male Mallards: Note how the angle of light makes their heads look purple instead of the usual green Pied-bill Grebe American Coot Lesser Scaup Relatively large mystery flies, which raced in rapid circles on the water before landing on this mass of algae.

American Robin This Blue Jay perched on a limb over the hawk on the right, scolding fairly continuously, as if to be saying, "Can't you see that creepy photographer?" This Red-shouldered Hawk was keeping an eye on me, but ignoring the Blue Jay.
